鸟神, I got a idiotic question:
putting things like pilot, radar, ground support, logistics, maintenance, etc aside, on a purely plane to plane comparison, does F16D blk 52 and F15SG match up against Su30MKM ?

There are many improvements made in the F15SG compared to the first F15 flown in 1972, and the F16D blk52s compared to the first F16 flown in 1979.

Anyway, by pure absolute rating alone (i.e. engine trust, trust to weight ratio, climb rate, max ceiling etc), the Su30MKM looks inferior to the F16 and the F15.  But in terms of weapons load, it would sit between the F16 and F15 Strike Eagle (which the F15SG is more closely related to). So I think they do match up in certain roles but not in every aspect - with one fighter being more superior than the other depending on specialisation.

However, I am not quite sure whether I understand what I am reading on some China websites discussing the engines. It seems to rate the American F100/F110s as better than that of the Russian AL-31s. Something to do with engine efficiency. Then again I do not remember whether the criticism was directed at the AL-31, or at the Chinese WS-10 that is supposed to be installed in place of the AL-31 on their own spinoffs - the J-11B.

More or less the same. One to sell to India (MKi), the other to Malaysia.

MKI = Modernizirovannyi Kommercheskiy Indiski  (found this on Wikipedia). You can read about all of them here.

Anyway, the thing is this, just like commercial planes Sukhoi etc manufactures only the airframe. And then the countries can choose what avionics (radar, ecm suite etc), and engines to put in. Though of course the manufacturer have a favored engine for max performance as that is what they do their trials with but typically an engine of the same specifications will fit and do just as well. Unlikely. Malaysia isn't exactly friendly to Israel to begin with. And with it trying to present itself as a center for Islamic banking, Malaysia can ill afford to offend their fellow Muslims brothers by befriending Israel. On top of which, Singapore has generally been mum on the matter of the so-called Israeli-"Palestinian" conflict, Israel wouldn't sell Malaysia anything to earn them another voice against them in the UN for this. It's simply NOT WORTH IT. Not to mention the threat of Israeli technology falling into the hands of some undesirable parties. Smiley

ok i think your analogy is quite valid. and so i suppose the MKM is going to suffer poor maintenance like the initial phase of the MKI.

I wonder will SG really take in the F-35 within the next 5 years ...

The F-35 has been delayed to 2014, if I am not wrong. Personally, I wonder whether it would even enter service before the J-20. The Chinese are definitely leap frogging ahead in technology.

Think about it, they have leap frogged ahead in high speed rail technology... just what is there to stop them from doing the same in terms of aviation technology?

oh ya. .. haha i actually started to find out about all this after reading the news that the Chinese is going for J-20 test flight soon ....

In a way I think the US arm makers might be hoping for the J-20 to get into service sooner than the Chinese themselves ... so as a good excuse for removing the ban on F-22 export LOL

The J-20 photos are on my FB album here.

And also, here's two videos I found on the Internet:

video #1
video #2

BTW, I think first flight is still some time away. Smiley

Well, the more delays there are means the prices of the F-35 will only continue to rise.

First of all with the USD at record low. Next, IF the US economy gets better and when the USD strengthens, we are all gonna get fxxked paying for that higher price anyway.

COE I don't really care, since I don't own car. Except that it will give excuse for transport companies to raise fares.

GST consperm will rise to 10% one. Even if TaliPAP majority down also same. Smiley
