I agree. I am either gonna love it, or be utterly disappointed.

They casted Superman VERY well though. I freaked when I first watched the trailer and thought Christopher Reeve was still alive.

Nicholas Cage was going to be cast as Superman in Tim Burton's version. Now he's reportedly working on Ghost Rider. Shocked

From the "About the Film" portion of official movie website:

"Lois Lane... has moved on since Superman left without a word.... [She] has other issues to deal with -- she is now engaged to the editor's nephew, and has a young son to look after."

Hmm...

[update] Apparently Bryan Singer has shot down any conjectures about the kid. The latter's role is to symbolize to Supes that five years have passed and even Superman cannot turn back time. (leaving the end of the first movie aside.)

Well Superman did turn back time in the first movie. That was a ridiculous plot device nonetheless. I mean, although Lois Lane had died during the quake, Superman could easily find lots of solace in that ditsy woman who was hanging out with Lex Luthor, helped Supes remove the kryptonite chunk hanging round his neck, and even kissed him for good measure before he flew away. Damn, I thought he has a new costume. It's time he swapped that underwear for a G-string.  Grin

That was a really really bad plot device. But one does a movie about a flying man with underpants, one must suspend disbelief somewhat...

But Superman III descending into camp was well, quite a waste of time. I don't know why but superhero movies do descend into camp when some directors take over like that campy 'Batman and Robin'.  Shocked

It would appear from imdb that the premise of this one will follow immediately after Superman II (The last good one...)

No. Rather, the 3rd (Supes vs. that huge computer) and 4th (vs. nukes) movies have been disavowed and left out of the movie continuity timeline.

So think of Superman Returns as a proper Superman III.

That's nice!

The one against the huge computer and nukes sounded too politically charged anyway. Especially the one against the nukes. Definitely a product of the cold war.

There is a 4-issue miniseries available from DC Comics: "Superman Returns Prequel". Title should be self-explanatory. The first issue was released today, titled "Krypton to Earth". I will post further comments if asked to.
