It's very natural for societies like Singapore to be trounced by Muslim countries in personal satisfaction studies, culturally a high Chinese population seldom has the means to be contented with what they have. That's not particularly something which Singaporeans should be unhappy about.

A good comparison for Singapore, which I always go for first, is to pick Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Of course, the fact that as a developed country we can benchmark against Australia and NZ, I doubt we'll be catching up anytime soon. I would'nt like to pay the kind of taxes these societies pay to have that kin dof happiness. Prozac is cheaper.

Note that this study is not going to help people who emigrate from Singapore. As much as I encourage all unhappy Singaporeans to leave because it forces the government to treat whoever remains more reasonably, minorities always show up as being unhappier than the general populace of any country. So it's hard to establish that Chinese Malaysians are happier than Chinese Singaporeans.

Common sense tells me that 50+ is not all that bad. Not every kid can go into RI. Wink

Singapore is ranked 53rd. I did'nt spend a lot time on this but you can looks the scores and see for yourself.

http://www.le.ac.uk/pc/aw57/world/sample.html

Paiseh... But so far based on my personal research Singaporeans are not as unhappy as painted by the Internet community. Of course a position of 53rd means that we can be happier.

( Because of the next book I'm writing, I'm personally vested in Singapore's happiness rankings. )

This place is not the same as before. I'm personally disappointed at all the old personalities who used to be able to give me a run for my money. I guess people change and degeneration has robbed the exuberance of youth of even a Lothlorienite.

Well keep you chin up, Zeph. I think your success is extraordinary simply because you did something no ordinary person would think would work, much less stake their lives upon it.

You are an inspiration to all the corporate wannabes like myself.

I think you can rise again.

Zeph,

I noticed that people who walk on the road less travelled tend to be happier if it pays off. For those who fail after making this attempt, they become a lot more cynical. This makes life a pretty fair game.

You are a successful business woman. I'm not surprised that you are happy.

I chose a stabel and boring road, I'm less happy than you but don't have very much to complain about in this country. ( Although I do complain for my fellow citizens !! )

Have'nt been writing for a long time, I know Frances Ong personally and actually wrote something about ecolical footprint in my next book. She know's what she's talking about being head of Geography in a secondary school. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to study the index and step in before people started fingering the government on making all Singaporeans unhappy.

Actually our personal satisfaction levels are fairly high at 6.9. Higher than mighty japan and top dog Vietnam.

This is one incredible woman who knows what she is talking about.

Wow ! I actually like the tone of the way the ministry replied. It no longer has the "civil servant" feel and has quite an edge to it. Singapore needs to have civils servants who are like Jack Welch. People with candour and unafraid to tell others the truth without seeming too arrogant.

I like it, anyone sympathetic to right-winged politics will like this tone.

I hate gays. Make no mistake for that. But I think the sentence should consider the plight of this faggot's dad and think of creative ways to go light on him.

He a good father and I find his compassion extremely remarkable.

I'd personally kill my son if he is gay.
